PURE EV is an electric vehicle vertical of PUREnergy, a startup that found its genesis at IIT Hyderabad. PURE is the acronym for Power Using Renewable Energy, which clearly defines the purpose of the startup. It focuses on finding ways to switch over to renewable sources of energy and contribute towards energy saving and environment preservation. One of the major steps taken is successfully accomplishing solar projects in a number of universities, schools, residential areas, NGOs and hospitals, while their major expertise remains in energy storage technology.

Another way the firm offers energy-saving methods is with its electric two-wheelers and high-performance Lithium batteries. Both the products are given the brand names of “PURE EV” and “PURE Lithium” respectively. The company was founded by Dr Nishanth Dongari, Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at IIT Hyderabad in 2016. Mr Rohit Vadera, an alumnus of IIT Bombay, leads the company. He has work experience in the oil and gas sector with leading global engineering firms in Abu Dhabi and has also worked with Ostro Energy for development of wind and solar plants.

With a dedicated set up of a 40,000-sqft state-of-the-art facility, co-located with Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, and manufacturing capacity of 2000 units per month, PURE EV aims for large scale production of electric vehicles and electric batteries. The company collaborates with the R&D laboratories of IIT Hyderabad, hence availing strong technological support.

There is a variety of two-wheelers offered by PURE EV, namely Egnite, Etrance, Epluto, and Etron.

“PURE EV has been continuously working on price reductions on all models with the help of in-house manufacturing of high-quality Lithium Battery, and a strong product design team who collaborates with various suppliers to fabricate critical components at affordable costs. We have 70 per cent indigenous content in terms of the value-added, and this factor is supporting the favourable unit economics,” said Dr. Nishanth Dongar.
