On July 9, 2019, Hyundai Motors launched the Hyundai Kona electric in India. The crossover is sold globally but its introduction in India was a gamechanger for the Indian EV market. Its stylish looks have completely changed the perspective of EVs among Indian buyers. After slight reduction in price owing to reduction in GST on EVs, the single tone version of Kona Electric now costs Rs. 23.73 lakhs (ex-showroom).

Features of electric Kona

The Kona Electric utilises electric motor and battery-powered powertrain with 100kW electric motor and the 39.2kWh battery. The ARAI claimed range of the Kona Electric is 452km. It’s electric powertrain supports fast-charging and is capable of charging from 0-80 percent in less than an hour – 57 minutes to be precise. However, it takes about 6 hours and 10 minutes to charge the battery from 0-100 percent using AC charging.

The notable new features of the Kona Electric are:

Front heated and ventilated seats which are power-adjustable
Sunroof

It also includes other standard features like Bi-function LED headlamps, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, push-button start, wireless charging for phone, climate control, cruise control, hill assist control, keyless entry and Safety features like front and side curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, a rear parking camera with dynamic guideline and sensors a lot more.

Variants

The Hyundai Kona Electric has just been launched in a single variant viz. Premium and is available in single tone and dual tone color options.

Color Options:

The Hyundai Kona Electric comes in five colour options: Marina Blue, Polar White, Phantom Black, Typhoon Silver and Polar White with Phantom Black roof.
